Snoring, Eh? A Look At What Makes You A Snorer

By Harold Ulvaeus

So you are a snorer? Snoring is the butt of many jokes, but it is not that funny when you or even worse, your partner, snores.

Some of the factors affecting the amount of disharmony from snoring is how loud it is, and how long it lasts.

When there is a need, there will be products. And so it is with snoring. Untold devices and contraptions are available to try to help the snorer be quiet. Some of them work somewhat, and some not at all. one of the problems is that people snore for a variety of reasons and these devices are for the most part only a band aid.

Using a chin strap may bring temporary relief, so may that new pillow as long as you lay on it just in the right way. But since these devices do nothing to correct the cause of the snoring the snoring will return as soon as the device is not used. Not very helpful.

Other natural methods may work to some extent, such as changing position in bed to your side instead of sleeping on your back, yoga, abstaining from alcohol etc. While some of these methods may be helpful, they too will only work as long as you do them.

The important thing for long term success, for nights of quiet and deep sleep is to address the CAUSE. The most common causes for snoring are all related to the tissues and muscles around your airways. A weak soft palate, a tongue lolling back into the throat, stuffy nose, tight muscles around the jaw, are some of the most common causes for you to snore.

This is great news. In the same way, (but much easier) you exercise other muscles for tone, the muscles and tissue around your airways can be toned and strengthened by spending a few minutes per day doing easy and pleasant exercises. With toned muscles in your throat and jaw and tongue, your snoring will only exist in your memory. (And in your partner's)
