Baby Lock Sewing Machines are owned by Tacony Corporation in Fenton, Missouri. This brand originated with the introduction of the home serger in 1964. The brand has grown and expanded since then offering top quality sewing machines and sergers. Its sergers offer features available nowhere else. Like most modern sewing machine companies, it draws from several manufacturers for various parts of its line. It maintains a quality control and design team from the United States to implement its designs and enhancements through its world wide marketing and production.

Japans Brother International makes many electronic products including sewing machines. It provides a low end line to mass merchants under the Brother label, and it markets its own high quality line under the Pacesetter By Brother label. In addition to these lines, Brother is well known for providing generic machines to associated brands. .

This brand is fourth generation family owned and manufactured by hand in Switzerland. The line has led the technologies for almost seventy five years, introducing many firsts: hem stitching, zig zag, computerization, Microsoft Windows operating system, and the largest stitch set on the market.

Elna Sewing Machines is somewhat of a step child line. Originally, the Elna line was made in Switzerland, but in recent years financial pressures have hurt production and sales. Recently, Janome purchased the company and is in the process of developing the line as a distinctively feminine styled sewing machine line. Within the near future, Elna will be designed jointly by Swiss and Janome designers, but providing a distinctive Elna machine line.

Husqavarna Viking originally from Sweden became famous for its resilience and ease of use. Now it is part of the conglomerate including Singer and Pfaff being manufactured in China.

Formerly, the New Home brand was marketed in the United States. Today Janome of Japan is the largest of all sewing machine manufacturers boasting over 50,000,000 machines made. The Memory Craft series has been very popular because of the advanced robotic incorporated in the stitch control system. The company makes many generic sewing machine lines for other companies.

The Pfaff brand is traced back to 1862 and Georg Michael Pfaff of Germany. This premium line of sewing machines gained a strong reputation of German engineering. The brand still maintains the flavor of the tradition, while it is manufactured in China with the Singer and Husqavarna lines.

The most popular brand of sewing machines is Singer. Since 1851, the Singer brand has been almost synonymous with sewing machines. During the early years the I.M. Singer & Company overwhelmed the market, while hundreds of other companies came and went. Even today it continues to be a popular brand manufactured in China.
