Feel Good About Yourself and Lose Weight

By Mary Bush

How you feel about yourself will determine what you do with yourself. One of the reasons why so many people fail to reach their goals in losing weight is because they don't stay motivated; and one of the main reasons why people don't stay motivated is because they don't like who they are.

Now, one would think that that would give a person all the more reason for staying motivated; that is, if you don't like the way you look you would obviously do something about it, right? That's not necessarily true. You see, a lot of people won't even go to their local gym because they don't want people to see that they're overweight while other people who are working out there are physically fit. Thus they feel intimidated by these people and choose to distance themselves from them as much as possible. Moreover, some people won't even go out at all, except to work and take care of other necessities, because they're fearful of what people might say about them. As a result of this they don't get the exercise that is needed to burn calories in such a way that it will result in improving their health and appearance.

Look, if this is what you're experiencing then you need to get over it. You have to live your life for you, not for others. In other words, don't worry about what someone might think about you. Instead, concentrate on doing what you know you need to do to lose weight and improve your health. If you worry about how others feel about you how will you ever experience true happiness? You see, you can't please everyone. You could be the best looking person in the world and someone will still find something to complain about you. So lose weight for you, not to please those who you hope will like you more if you're fit.

I also want to point out that you aren't your weight. In other words, just because you're overweight that doesn't mean you aren't beautiful. You see, what's in the heart is what matters most, not what you see in the mirror. Now, I encourage you to work hard to help yourself, but just be sure to do it for you. After all, if you try to do it for everyone else and don't get the response that you're hoping to gain, you might give up and never really see how strong you are.

The bottom line here is that you can achieve your weight loss goals. Don't let some fear of what people might think of you keep you from doing that. And try to think more positively about yourself. Don't keep telling yourself that you're fat and ugly. Such language is counter-productive to growth because it weighs you down with negative anchors and keeps you from moving in the direction that you need to go to achieve the desires of your heart. Instead, tell yourself that you're going to lose weight, and that you are making positive changes in your life. And by all means don't think of yourself as being ugly, because you aren't ugly. Tell yourself that you're beautiful and keep doing this every day! Soon you will discover that these thoughts will prove to be your greatest helpers when it comes to losing weight and feeling good about who you are!
