The food is another awesome thing to check out. To eat the food of another country in the country is so different from eating it at a restaurant here. I would say most of the "authentic" restaurants here still somewhat make the food to American's tastes.
Just make sure to pay attention to everything if you travel outside the states. You have to be attentive to the culture, the way people move around, what people do for a job. I couldn't believe the cabs in Mexico. Those drivers are insane! The traffic is all piled up and I thought we were going to crash the whole way to our hotel.
Even things like the smells are neat to experience. By paying attention you will notice new pleasant smells that you haven't ever experienced before. The natural and man made landscape will also be things you have never seen before. If you can, you need to go on a trip out of the country!
