Choosing a Good Remodeler

By Gordon T. Mayer

Often times when we dream up a remodel, addition, or new home, we forget one of the most important tasks: researching builders. There are many factors to consider when selecting a builder. Factors that will determine the success of the structure and your own mental well being. Below is a list that can help you select the right builder for your dream project:

Professionalism - What you expect from a banker is what you should expect from a builder. Sure the dress may very, but each should be courteous, return your calls promptly and have a good handle on whatever may come their way.

Communication - Someone that understands you and can clearly relate things to you will have a much higher success rate when it comes to seeing your plans through.

Organization - Every aspect of your project needs to be in writing. It should be well planned and leave nothing "up in the air". You should always know who will be on your property and when you need to pay them.

Portfolio/References - The building industry is based on two things--completed structures and relationships. You should examine both. Any good builder will not only show you his work in images, but he will give you the names and numbers of people he has worked with in the past. Visit and ask questions, it is the only way you will know if the builder can provide the experience you are looking for.

Every construction project needs to be about one thing: the client. To make sure that you are getting the best experience possible just follow these helpful tips.
