How To Choose The Best Rustic Furniture For Your Home

By Woody Z Kilespowski

Obtaining rustic cabin furniture is not something that you can take lightly. It is constructed mostly of wood and is its own special niche. Only if someone has shown you what to look for, you very well possibly may end up bringing nothing more than a high priced piece of firewood home.

It is strongly advised that if you do not currently have a working knowledge of wood furniture, that you either do a lot of research on the topic and get yourself educated or that you bring someone along with you who can help you select good, quality pieces that are well put together.

If furniture is made shoddy, it will not have quality corner blocking. Corner blocking should be very evident in the construction and ensures that your item is supported properly and put together well. Without it, your item very well may fall apart at any moment there is pressure or weight put on an unsupported area.

The rear construction of your furniture should be put together with nails and or screws. This integrates the back to the main piece of the furniture and is a sure sign of either something that is well constructed or a piece of junk. This is a major short cut as most people don't think to look at this feature but make sure it is one that you check.

You will also want to check the finish on the piece. Quality finishes on furniture are a multi-step purpose and take quite some time. If the piece only has one coat or looks to have been cheaply done, again, move on. If no care was taken in a step that is so obvious, it is likely the rest of it was treated in the same manner.

A small feature that not many people will check because they are assuming that it is done correctly is the alignment of the drawers and railing system. Now we all know what assuming does right? Again, an easy short cut as if they do not take their time and do this properly, they can be misaligned resulting in the drawers coming off of their track and ruining your clothing if it gets caught in the tracking or under the rolling wheel.

While furniture is always made square or boxed, it should have quality levelers on the bottom of the legs. As we all know, houses shift, are built on hills, settle, etc., which means that over time, your furniture may be in a position where it will have to be adjusted. If it does not have a quality leveler installed, you are going to have a piece that will be on an angle and could end up being unsafe or end up getting damaged.

Looking for rustic furniture is certainly not something that you should take lightly. Educate yourself or bring a friend that knows their business and make it a successful journey that leads to you bringing home a beautiful piece that you will be happy you purchased it.
