Mattress Comfort and a Good Night's Sleep

By Stephan Thomlinson

Getting a better night's rest means making sure that you are able to sleep as comfortably as possible. It is important to keep in mind that comfort is a personal preference and while some people may feel more comfortable sleeping on a hard surface, others need something a little softer.

Choosing your personal comfort level is a mix between your medical needs and your personal preference.

Keeping comfortable will definitely help you achieve a better night's rest, but if you have heart disease or diabetes, or even if you have a family history of it, then you will need to take this into account.

Bed size helps make your sleep more comfortable.

Everyone sleeps differently. Some people lay on their sides while others on their back or stomach. Some people are fine sleeping on a small bed while others need lots of space. If your bed is too small for you then you cannot get comfortable and will loose sleep at night.

Elevating crucial parts of your body!

Your body is not designed to lay perfectly flat and although the bed does help with this, if you are suffering from diabetes or possibly even heart disease then you also need to make sure that you have good circulation all night long.

Cleaning you bed includes more then the bedding.

This eludes many people who change their bedding regularly. Your bed is not clean unless it is sanitized on a regular basis. Everyone sweats at night and when the bed absorbs it, it creates a breeding ground for bacteria and mites.

Replacing wear and tear!

A bed is only designed to last so long and even with regular cleaning and sanitizing, the bed will gradually wear out. It is highly suggested to never purchase a used mattress and to replace your existing one no later then every 8 years to many good night for many years to come.

No matter how you choose to look at it, eventually your bed will fall apart and as it does your ability to have a good night's rest will slowly degrade. Make sure that you replace the mattress long before this occurs so that you can enjoy the fruits of a great night's sleep every night of the year.
