Two Good, Safe Ways To Set Up A Trampoline On Unleveled Ground

By Jane Bracken

Have you always wanted a trampoline in your yard, but have a yard that is unlevel? I may have your answer. W either you need to lower your yard or raise it up, this article will give you the easy steps to accomplish your task.

The first option that you have is to create a level place in your yard. In order to do this you will need to either remove some dirt or add some dirt. If you decide to remove dirt, it may just take a bit of work with a shovel, however if your yard has extreme elevation changes you may need to rent a bobcat or other small piece of excavating equipment.

Before getting crazy with an excavator, purchase a string level from your local hardware store. To use, place the stakes in the ground on opposite sides of your site and run a string between them. Grab a friend and place the level between the two on the string. Then move it along the string until it is level.

Now that you have a level string you can use a stick and verify that the ground is level all along the string by marking the stick and moving it to different points along the line. If your mark is above the string you need to remove some dirt from that area. If your mark is below the string you will need to add some dirt to that area.

When you believe the area is level, use a string to go over it and remove excess dirt. Then, use a rake to fine level. Finally, make sure everything is firm to the ground, you may need to add or remove earth.

If you are worried about your trampoline corroding, you may opt to build a retaining wall. You will be able to find interlocking blocks at your local lawn and garden store. Most come in a variety of colors according to the style in your garden.

If your yard has multiple hills and you need to add a lot of soil, you may need to build a small wall. You may be able to build it yourself, but any work done to your house may require a permit from your township. Make sure you have all the necessary paperwork before doing any construction on your property.

Filling cider blocks with sand or concrete is my suggestion. Place the cinder blocks accordingly around the area, fill the centers with concrete or sand, and fill the hole with compacted dirt. You will need to use stakes or poles to to secure the trampoline to ensure it does not fall off the new footing.

Both options are dependable as long as the work is done properly. Safety needs to be first priority at all times. Otherwise, a trampoline is a great addition to any yard and fun exercise. Remember to keep your new area well maintained so it can continue to bring you and your family joy for years to come. Happy Jumping!
