Hot Ideas for Hot Weather Vacations

By Bruce Intincek

If you have picked a warm sunny spot for your vacation, you are probably looking forward to getting the most out of it that you can.

Here are ten tips to do just that:

1. Book your room and your activities in advance as much as you can. Popular resorts fill up quickly and if you want to enjoy some of the special activities, you want to make sure you are not left out. Get out and enjoy the weather in Barcelona or the seclusion of camping.

2. Keep your money safe. Traveler's checks are a better idea than cash, but credit cards are the safest of all since you can cancel it immediately if it is lost or stolen, and any inaccurate charges can be disputed.

3. Think about how your children will be occupied while you are on vacation. Nothing can ruin a vacation faster than bored, unoccupied kids. If you can arrange for activities during the day and perhaps babysitting when you want to go out at night, you will all have a better time.

4. Check out the nightlife ahead of time. If you and your partner like to enjoy clubs and dancing, pick a spot that will meet your needs. The Key West of Ernest Hemmingway fame, Miami's South Beach, Los Angeles, San Diego, Barcelona and Las Vegas all offer fabulous nightlife of shows, clubs and dancing the night away.

5. Popular resorts often have entertainment venues such as comedy clubs, theaters and concert halls. If you can catch a good show, your vacation will be that much more unforgettable.

6. Try out some of the exciting water sports that these sunny spots have to offer. Hang gliding, para-sailing, scuba diving or snorkeling are great activities that you can participate in beach areas. In some locales, you may even be able to go swimming with dolphins!

7. Be sure you are able to communicate. It is easier to travel in an area where the locals speak English, or you can try to learn some Spanish if you are going to the Caribbean. Most of the popular islands, such as Jamaica, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda and the Bahamas are all native English speaking countries.

8. Carefully arrange your transportation. This is one of the biggest areas that can make or break a vacation. Make sure you will have time for connecting flights, don't get stranded at the airport without a rental car, or after the public transportation stops running.

9. Check out the possibilities to do some interesting shopping. For rainy days, or just to have a chance to pick up some local items or remembrances of your vacation, you should allow time for shopping.

10. Make your dream come true. Pick a spot you have always dreamed about, and you will be sure to enjoy your vacation because you have anticipated it so much. A beautiful island in the tropics, surfing on a California or Hawaii beach, whatever you have been dreaming about should become your next vacation spot.

Make sure to bring along the camera and camcorder so that this dream will be able to live on.
