Wind and Solar Power (Renewable Energy): The Source of a Renewed

By Ashley Patrick

For one to understand the notion of renewable energy, one must take into consideration the forms of energy we have in the present society. At present, energy comes from sources such as electricity, coal, and fossil fuel"a substance which contains carbon. Said elements are present on earth; yet, they are not considered renewable resources and are scarce. Moreover, the use of electric power somehow endangers the environment since electricity is created from the burning of coal and other substances containing carbon.

Did you ever wonder why the burning of coal and fossil fuel is dangerous?

The burning of coal and fossil fuels is harmful for the environment because of the emission of poisonous levels of carbon dioxide into the air that we breathe. In effect, it destroys the ozone and may produce unalterable effects to the atmosphere. Moreover, it may cause respiratory problems such as asthma, bronchitis and the like. Not to mention, coal and fossil fuel are irreplaceable, thus, there will come a time when said elements will run out. The imbalance between the demand and the supply of said elements causes the price to rise rapidly.

Another form of energy we have on earth is renewable energy. The basic difference it has if to be compared with the carbon-containing substances is that it exists in abundance and that it can be restored. Natural energy comes from these sources, namely, sun, wind and water. Said sources are safe to use and contribute to the earths preservation. Combined with technology, these natural resources are less damaging and are less dangerous to the ecosystem. Not to mention, they are more economical.

The use of renewable energy has more advantages than disadvantages. Listed below are some of them:

1. Unlimited supply " the earth will never run out of solar power, wind and water. The supply is not bound to stop. Since they make up a large portion of the earths atmosphere, these natural resources will always be abundant.

2. Economy " although there may be renewable energy that is not always accessible, there may be a lot more others which are readily available and thus, decreases the utility expenses. Since it exists in abundance, the ever presence of renewable energy will maintain the cost of its production. Wind and solar power users minimize costs and are able to save from their money.

3. Environmental health " both living and non-living things are secured from pollutants with the use of renewable energy than that of the coal or fossil fuel. It is safer with the former and is a lot better for the earths subsistence. It is also ozone-friendly and thus, everyone and everything on the earths surface are free from danger.

Besides the reasons mentioned above, there are more benefits that are less known to us; decrease in economic exchanges with foreign countries, reduced dependency to foreign resources, and the decrease in pollution and contamination. Renewable energy such as wind and solar power can best provide for countries which lack the availability of electricity and other power resources. And to reduce your electric bill, you can build your own home wind or solar power generator. You can do this by having a step by step instruction guide. With this, you can save energy and increase the value of your home.
