The Ageless Popularity Of Tintin

By Jason Black

Tintin is a character from a comic book that originated from Herge, an artist who was based in Belgium. Herge based him on a curious and sometimes funny Belgian newspaper reporter set in a world in the 1920's. The character first appeared in a newspaper comic strip and its popularity grew as to see it published in many languages worldwide and soon to debut on the big screen.

The comics had a wide variety of characters. They were also based in a world very similar to the one we live in and thus a realistic portrayal of life as we knew then. It would turn out to be another reason why Tintin became one of the most popular cartoon characters in the modern world.

Tintin also had a lovable dog as a sidekick. Snowy was the white Fox terrier that captured the hearts of millions of readers worldwide. It also appealed to dog owners which increased the appeal of the comic.

There were also other characters that became fixtures in the series. One of them was Captain Haddock, the grumpy ship navigator who often clashed with Tintin. The other was Professor Calculus who was a genius of a person and assisted Tintin in solving many mysteries.

Despite Tintin's popularity with people of all ages, it had its fair share of critics. They were critical of what they thought were negative slants spread throughout the stories. However, the millions of fans worldwide who have never caused any trouble from reading them cannot be wrong in their own assessments.

With the comics having gained such a huge following, it was no surprise when a Tintin live action movie was announced. The film will reach the silver screen in 2009 and fans are anticipating it eagerly. More new fans are expected to be inducted once they have seen the movie.

Tintin has influenced many others apart from comic fans. Eclectic artists like Andy Warhol have suggested the comic character as having a presence during his budding years in the industry. There are also professional musicians who are not shy about revealing the Tintin touch in their work.

As the comics explore different worlds, they continue to draw in curious readers from every part of the world. With various themes in mystery, adventure and even space travel, there is something for everyone from the life episodes of Tintin.
