Why Katrina Hates Storm Doors

By Mark Smith

In some regions, the weather has become more and more unpredictable over the past few years. This is why people are getting caught by hurricanes, they see their homes destroyed and their life threatened. Part of such disasters can be prevented by installing storm doors.

The so called storm doors are sliding panels strongly reinforced, which glide over the exterior doors, protecting them. This means such a door is not meant to be installed instead of your old door, but over it.

Storm doors are the same thing with screen doors. As the name shows, such doors act like screens in front of bad weather and strong winds, protecting your house from damages. Screen doors are retractable, so you can use them only when needed.

Be it in winter or in hot summer days, storm doors save energy. In the cold season, they prevent the heat to get out of your rooms, while in the summer, they preserve the cool air from the air conditioner. In both cases, this translates in more money in your pockets.

Heavy duty exterior doors can be made of metal, as well as of hard wood. Vinyl is also a modern choice of material, which makes it possible that your door has a wide range of patterns and colors. The choice belongs to you and your home designer, if you have one.

When living in a house in the wilderness, this can become dangerous. People looking to steal from houses may break in while you are out, and get your home empty in less than one hour. A storm door can offer a plus of security for such cases. Of course, an alarm system would be a plus, but you need to make sure you take as many preventive measures as you can.

Depending on the region of the Earth you live in, installing a storm door can be a true necessity or just a fantasy. Besides, it is always a matter of how much money you make and how much you can afford to spend n things that may not be vital for you.
