I'm sure you have a talent or two hidden away somewhere. You probably have what it takes to sculpt something remarkable out of wires and clay. Or maybe you prefer the wooden grain when you carve the said figures; the feel of Mother Nature at your fingertips. Even if it's as basic as cooking up simple dishes in the kitchen, crafts are something most people can do.
All human beings have the inherent capacity to be creative. Even if you have the misfortune of believing that you do not have talent, this may only be because you have yet to find something that interests you. But, still it's a fact that those who are most in tune with their inner artists are likely to create better crafts than those who aren't.
Creativity, however, is just one part of the recipe. One must also go through the test of fire to be able to gone his or her craft properly. Specifically, craftspeople shouldn't just keep the crafts hidden in their homes, only to be seen by close friends and family. They should instead brave the criticisms, however venomous they might turn out to be, so that they may know how to better their wares. Only then will they truly be masters in their craft.
Once you, as a craftsperson, feel that you are competent enough, you may want to think about selling your works at a craft show around North Dakota. This is the premiere dream of many craftspeople; to see their labors bear fruit and be appreciated and admired by other people. But however good your skills are at this level, this is where one will learn one last lesson.
Craft shows, especially juried ones, are highly competitive events. You will find this out once you try your hand at registering at fairs. You may be tempted to change your style for what is "in" at the moment, and this is okay, but to some extent, it's a good idea to keep your unique fingerprint still apparent in the crafted items you make. Your works will then be a standout amongst the crowd.
