Build a Tiki Bar in one day

By Rob lyle

Bring back summer and keep it all year round if you build a tiki bar for your home. When it's the middle of winter have a Laua to rid the winter blues away invite your friends, they might think you are crazy, but it will be fun.

If you purchase a Tiki Bar instead you will probably be spending several thousand dollars, bringing summer year round can be expensive. Then you will be pleased to know that if you build a Tiki Bar it will cost much less.

A search of the Internet will bring up many different plans that can be purchased online. Decide if you want to have your tiki bar just for a one off event or if you want it as more of a permanent fixture in your home.

What is most economical and pleasing to your mates is to opt for a permanent tiki bar and to build one accordingly you will need quality tiki bar plans that are precise in instructions and dimensions for a porfessional finish.

If, on the other hand you are happy to have a temporary tiki bar, then read on and learn. First you will need a strong table. Any that you have hanging around at home will do just fine for the tiki bar.

Next of all nailgun and attach straw, wood slats or bamboo around the tables outside, Bamboo looks the most authentic but the other alternatives are good as well but do not quite have the same tiki bar feel.

Straw for the tiki bar can be found at pool stores, bamboo is found at nurseries as is plywood which is good for the roof of your tiki bar. Throw straw around the base for that tropical feel.

After the plywood cover the roof with straw thatch or nick some palm fronds from the neighbors palm tree. First build the roof on the ground then hook it up to the top fo the bar. Now you can decorate, add shells, tropical flowers, tiki statues and anything tropical.

Go crazy adding shells, coconuts, tribal masks, tiki statues, frangipanis, and hibiscus: or whatever tropical decoration your heart desires. Buy a few small potted palms from the local nursey to place by the tiki bar.

When you have your first tiki bar party make sure you have a good supply of mixers and tropical drinks. For those who do not want alcohol supply a nice non alchoholic tropical punch and fizzy drinks for the kids.
