Kentucky Health Insurance Options

By Jeff Cline

When it comes to finding health insurance in the Bluegrass state the options are plentiful. Nobody needs to go without health insurance. With a little reserach you too can find options that meet your needs.

Kentucky residents still remain uninsured despite all the options. Roughly 12% of them are still not insured. That 12% is risking huge financial doom and studies have shown they will not get the health care they need. It is just not worth the risks you see.

One choice you may have is group insurance through your employer. If you have health conditions this may be a perfect option since they must cover that condition. One disadvantage is that you must take the one plan fits all and dependent coverage can be very expensive since your employer typically only shares cost of your premium.

If you can not afford or do not have the option of group insurance the next option is individual health insurance. The same carriers that offer group can provide you with individual health insurance. You can choose the benefits based on your needs and budget. Downside of these plans is that they may decline or put limitations on you if you have health conditions.

If you get declined coverage due to a health condition there is another option. Kentucky Access is a state program. this program helps these individuals get health insurance despite their medical conditions.

Kentucky also finds it imporatant to make sure children have health insurance coverage. The have the KCHIP (Kentucky Children's Health Insurance Program). This plan gives low income families a choice for helath insurance for children under 18.

Do not let any rock left unturned. If none of these options work for you seek out the help of the Kentucky Department of Medicaid Services. They have government funded options that you may qualify for. Qualifiying residents will get needed health insurance as well as other public assistance.

Whatever you situation do not go uninsured. The risk is not worth it. You have many options to explore. It just takes a little research and knowledge. Don't hesitate make sure you have the health insurance you deserve today.
