Home Security Protection - Make It a Concern

By steve Putnam

Home security should never be under-estimated as an important issue for securing your family, belongings and home. Research tells us that most burglaries are carried out when an opportunity presents itself, and simple common-sense precautions could have prevented the theft. Make sure that external doors are locked, windows closed and the house has an appearance of someone being home whenever you leave it unattended. These are the three most common opportunities that burglars look for.

These are tips that will help you ensure the security protection of your home. Fit key-operated security locks to all your external doors. Some door designs need specialized treatment; French Doors for example. Fit keyed locks to all windows.

Fit secure locks to your garden shed and garage and make sure your tools are safely locked away whenever you are not home. It is not uncommon for opportunistic thieves to use the householder's own tools to help them break in.

Thieves are very good at what they do, and they know all the tricks that many householders employ, such as "hiding" a key around the house or yard. There is no truly safe way of doing this.

Home security cameras and CCTV can be installed at the main entry points to the house and yard. These serve to capture the image of anyone who comes to the door, enables you to monitor your property, allows you to see who is at the door before opening it to a potential threat and also lets you monitor your children when they are out in the yard. CCTV is becoming more popular as it has proven to be a deterrent to burglars. Many systems are now available as DIY home security systems that simply plug into your current TV.

Home alarm systems, when highly visible, are excellent deterrents to intending burglars. These can consist of a siren that sounds when tripped, a light which turns on when it detects movement or a strobe light that flashes when activated. Many systems combine all three elements. These are available as do it yourself, or DIY home security systems and also wireless, which makes them more affordable. Make sure the alarm system you choose is approved.
