Don't Listen to Them - Take a Cruise Holiday

By Greg Hansward

People who've never taken a cruise usually have many reasons why they think cruise holidays aren't for them. If you've been talking yourself out of booking a cruise then you should know the truth about some common misconceptions. Hopefully, it will change your mind and you'll take a cruise since it is truly a relaxing and fun vacation.

Cruises are no longer dominated by the elderly and late-middle aged vacationers. Family vacations on cruises are becoming increasingly popular and many of the facilities and activities target younger age groups. There is also an increase in teenagers and 20 something's either traveling with family or without. True, a large amount of passengers will be over 50 since they have the time and funds but it's not as prevalent as it once was.

Some people have heard that everything is on a schedule; meals, activities, etc. So you might think that you're on a floating tour bus but that is not so especially on the large ocean liners. Some meals are served at certain times but most ships have a 24 hour buffet that has a wide variety of food and the dining experience is more casual than it once was so no need to pack a suit or evening gown. Shows and theatre performances are of course on a schedule but there are so many different kinds of activities. There is always something happening so there's no need to stick to a schedule.

Along the same mindset, you might be thinking that there's not enough to keep you busy. That is simply not true since there is so much to do, it would be hard to do everything you want to. There is something for everyone. If you're the sportive type there are bowling alleys, gyms, rock climbing, and some ships even have a driving range so you can work on your golf swing. If you're looking for entertainment then there are plenty of options including movie theatres, cabaret style shows and comedy clubs. Children will be kept busy with activities geared towards their age group and there's always the pool and arcade. Add to all of these activities, the exciting ports of call and you'll never be bored.

Some liken a cruise with being "stuck" on a ship with a bunch of other tourists. True, everyone on the ship is a tourist but that's not necessarily bad. Since everyone is on vacation most are in a relaxed and high spirited mindset. The crew and passengers tend to be friendly and easy going so being "stuck" with other holiday makers is actually a good thing.

Now that some of those misconceptions have been proven wrong there's nothing stopping you from booking your dream holiday at sea!
