Oprah's List of Favorite Things 2008

By Tasha Miller

Oprah's Favorite Things 2008 show which was aired on November 26th was very different from past year's shows where Oprah gave the audience thousands of dollars in gifts. This year was very well done on how to enjoy your holidays and give gifts that won't put you into debt.

Understanding the financial stress that people and the country is under; Oprah really addressed this in her show this year. The focal point of the show was to show her audience and the viewers at home that you can still have a great holiday season and give gifts that will touch the receivers' heart but not empty your wallet.

First on the list of Oprah's Favorite Things 2008 was how to make your own Gratitude Box. Simple to make and what a heartfelt gift it makes to the receiver. You can buy a pretty box from your local craft store and some ribbon for as little as $2, or you may want to dress it up a bit more. Write some very special things about the person, times you remember, funny things that happened or things you enjoyed together and place them in the box. This is one gift that won't be forgotten.

Oprah made a list of her favorite holiday music hits and in the spirit of the season she made both the music and the CD cover art available for download at her site including artist Faith Hill singing "Joy to the World", Aretha Franklin singing "Silent Night", Josh Groban, "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear", Tony Bennett, "I'll be Home for Christmas" and many, many more of this season's hits sung by today's hottest artists.

Another one of Oprah's Favorite Things 2008 and a great gift idea is a Treasure Box and you can buy them for about $12. Inside you can place keepsakes for your children, friends or family. Give it to a friend and you start it off and let them continue to add to the treasure box. When a special occasion comes up such as their birthday you can give them something to add to it also. The Treasure Boxes become a collection of beautiful mementos that the receiver will hold near and dear to their hearts.

Hot Chocolate becomes more popular as the temperature goes down. For just a little bit of cash you can make people a gift they will truly enjoy...Hot Chocolate Cones. Simply take a few moments to find a recipe online to make your own hot chocolate, add marshmallows and chocolate chips and place it all into decorative candy bags or piping bags found locally at a craft store. Then just decorate simply with a bow or some added ribbon for an added extra touch.

How about a Swap party? Have a themed one, and set a price that will be spent, or even a cookie swap etc. Have everyone bring a dozen cookies for each person attending, so if there are 8 people that come you bring 8 dozen cookies and leave with 8 dozen cookies, but have 8 different kinds. That way you don't have to bake all those cookies. If you love to cook or have access to a garden you might want to make Gift Baskets of goodies that you prepared to give as gifts. How about some homemade blueberry jam, peanut brittle, cookies, add in some Holiday Chocolate cones, whatever you want to put in there I am sure your gift will be greatly appreciated and it's another idea from Oprah's Favorite Things 2008 that won't break the bank.

Oprah loves to read good books and even has her own book club. This year on of Oprah's Favorite Things 2008 is a marvelous novel by David Wroblewski, "The Story of Edfar Sawtelle" If you love to curl up with a good book you may want to get a copy of this one.

There are also several other items on Oprah's Favorite Things 2008 that are broken down by price range starting at under $25 up to $100 and then there is Oprah's All Time Favorites list. So you can have a great holiday season and not empty your bank account.
