Paternity Testing Serves The Public Good

By Patricia Donaldson

There are many instances where the results of paternity testing help to reunite families and settle long standing questions about the biological parents of children. It's important to remember that these tests are so accurate that their results are rarely questioned, and the technology that's gone into this has become so advanced that it's now possible to get a paternity dna test before birth.

Determining Relationships

Paternity testing has is the best way of determining the biological relationship between a father and child. Like many other scientific methods that have given way dna testing, blood grouping analysis has given way to more modern methods. It's important to understand that dna paternity testing is 100% accurate in proving exclusion and offers a 99.9% certainty of inclusion.

There are different reasons that people order these tests and not all are ordered by the court systems. Often, people are interested in sorting out the family relationship between parents and offspring for immigration or even grandparentage reasons, and there are those who are interested in sibling issues as well. Still, in almost all these cases, the results of dna paternity testing betters the lives of all those who are concerned with the procedure.

Testing Methods

Generally, there are two different methods used in all types of paternity testing. The differences between the at-home test and the legal test is not in the results but rather in the way that the samples are collected. For the at-home test, a kit is generally sent to he person interested that includes:

 Swabs that will collect and oral samples needed  Documentation to prove the tests come from a certain person  The legal condition of sale documents

In the other legal version of paternity testing, there are more strict guidelines that cover the collection of samples. Here, a qualified third party is generally used and these people are quite often a nurse or a qualified doctor. It's essential to remember that there are no differences in the results regardless of the way that these dna testing procedures are carried out.

Paternity testing is the culmination of years of scientific research into dna and how it marks the relationship between people. Whether you're looking for a paternity dna test before birth or any of the other kinds of testing, it's important to remember that these test are near foolproof in determining family relationships.
