If the cause of you tinitus sudden and loud noises, you are lucky, as this is probably temporary and will last a few hours or days.

Hearing loss in older people and over doses of medicines including aspirin can lead to the development of prolonged tinitus. Head traumas cysts and growths can lead to prolonged tinitus.

Tinitus can often be a system of an underlying problem. Inner ear infections cysts and tumours need medical attention. How long it takes to cure these problems will be how long tinitus will last.
