Planning All Your Holiday Excursions

By Rob Carlton

For those people that love to go on vacations to different places, excursions to beautiful beaches, and taking a trip to the most exotic holiday locations, it is the travel agent that we seem to rely on to provide us with the best vacation possible. To the travel, the travel agent is almost a Godsend sometimes. Many inexperienced travelers wonder what they would ever do without the travel agents. However, because of the internet a travel agent's work as steadily decreased.

Today, many people can plan their entire vacation, purchase their tickets, book their cars and even make their reservations through the internet. Because of that, many most financial analysts have said that while the needs of travel agents go down, so do their wages, as well. In fact, the average salary of a travel agent in 2002 was $26,000. However, it also depends on where you live as well as your experience!

When it comes down to it, travel agents are not making that much money; however, they do get discounts and special privileges on traveling as benefits. Even with those benefits, many travel agents can't even use them because they can't afford to travel! Most families choose to travel around the holidays so are in need of a travel agent at that time of year, making it difficult for the travel agent to take vacations of their own then.

Even with the poor pay, there are still people that want to become a travel agent! If you are persistent of becoming a travel agent, here are some tips for you!

Make sure you know how to speak at least 2 different languages as you will deal with many nationalities. More and more we are seeing people from other countries, like Costa Blanca, Spain enter our country bringing with them a foreign language. The schools are even teaching more foreign languages than ever before. Make sure you get all the training you need; as you will need it for any job. Keep up to date on any training you may need. Customers need to feel that you know what you are doing. Get all the education you can on the computer, you will need it for all of the transactions, invoicing, and any reports. Keep being updated on all the trends of the business. Also, it is very important that you know all the best locations for traveling. Get your certificate as a Certified Travel Counselor; it is an extra value when getting a job.

When becoming a travel agent, it is all up to the person's interest; and not more. So, if the person is happy at what he/she is doing, the pay should not matter!
