3 Well Known Myths On Growing Taller

By Rodney Williams

It's easy to see why myths and legends exist. They make life more interesting, and add mystery to what can at times, especially in our age of high technology, seem like a world with no mysteries left to tell. Myths though often obscure or contradict with facts, and it's important to know the facts about any matter. We'll shatter the mystery surrounding three growing taller myths, and expose the hard facts. If you like a little mystery in your life, you should look away now.

Myth #1 - There's no relationship between height gain and dieting - We know how important our diet is in promoting growth and maintaining a healthy body, and yet for some reason we don't consider it to have any effect on our height.

Our bodies need an abundant amount of resources to reach their full potential, and having a diet rich in protein, vitamins, calcium, magnesium, and water, will all promote healthy bodily growth. On the other hand, fat intake should be reduced, as fats can contribute to blocking the release of growth hormone, not to mention putting extra weight on and give the appearance of being shorter than you really are.

Myth #2 - Smoking - This is a hot topic, and is split fairly evenly down the middle. Most children are warned that they'll stop growing entirely if they start smoking, while others would laugh at such a notion. So what's the truth of the matter?

Wellthis one's still debatable, hence why the two sides are still so evenly split. Tests have been numerous, and have shown no conclusive evidence that smoking stunts growth. Whether this is due to test subjects being beyond their growth spurts already is undetermined. The fact is that smoking releases harmful and invasive toxins into your body, which have a negative effect on most every bodily function they come into contact with. Maybe it won't directly inhibit growth, especially if the smoking is begun past the growth spurt as mentioned, but it certainly can't help.

Myth #3 - Exercise won't increase height - Here's another one that is quite commonly entrenched. In fact many people wouldn't even consider it a debatable question. Are they correct?

Not so. It has been proven through many studies than regular and targeted stretching of the legs and spine can result in height gain of two or more inches, even in adults who would be unlikely to grow any taller of their own accord.

These are just three of the myths that persist to this day around the concept of growing taller. In the case of smoking it's still up for debate, and may be for some time, but it's safe to say the other two myths have effectively been debunked and exposed as the fairy tales that they are.
